Later this year, Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort will be opening a new tower building that will feature 268 brand-new timeshare rooms. This DVC property extension, the Island Tower, is currently under construction and will open in December 2024.
Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort first opened in 1971 with 492 guest rooms across eight buildings, known as longhouses. Today, the resort has 484 non-timeshare rooms, 360 DVC studios, and 20 DVC overwater bungalows across a dozen longhouses.
The new timeshare units at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort will be part of the current DVC contracts for those with memberships at the property. If you own points at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, you can use those points to book vacations at the Island Tower without buying an additional home resort contract. These members can also book at the Island Tower 11 months in advance. Those who have memberships at other home resorts can book at the Island Tower 7 months in advance.
The Island Tower will feature 10 stories with South Pacific island themes. Some of the units will offer stunning views of the Magic Kingdom.
“With stunning views of Magic Kingdom Park and beautiful interiors that bring you into the storytelling of the South Pacific Islands, the Island Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows will be a spectacular addition to Walt Disney World Resort right in the heart of the magic,” said Bill Diercksen, senior vice president and general manager of Disney Vacation Club, in a press release.
In the Island Tower lobby, there will be a stunning art installation that showcases wildlife native to the South Pacific region as well as sculptures made from recycled fishing net and living moss chandeliers.
“Our main story narrative focuses on celebrating Polynesian wayfinding and the natural elements of water, earth, wind and fire. During the artwork development, we focused on three guiding principles: Polynesian stories, sustainability stories and Disney stories. This new tower features works created by contemporary Polynesian artists as well as artwork featuring subtle nods to ‘Moana’ and Disney Legend Mary Blair,” said Walt Disney Imagineer Madeline Day, in a press release.
Accommodations at the Island Tower will sleep two to nine people with more deluxe studios, duo studios, one-, and two-bedroom villas. And for the first time, there will be two-bedroom penthouse villas available for booking.
The new Island Tower was built with the Walt Disney Company’s 2030 environmental goals in mind. The tower will have optimized heating and cooling systems, use energy-efficient lighting, and will feature the first all-elective kitchen in the building’s restaurant. These green measures are estimated to use 30 percent less energy than a similar-sized resort.
