Also, the ability to work from home has made it possible to mix work and travel. Travel destinations like Lisbon (Portugal) and Bali (Indonesia) have grown in popularity as destinations for remote work. According to that, the future of travel appears to be more mindful, connected, and culturally diverse. Great news, right?

Croatia: Natural Wonders in the Mediterranean

Yes, my beautiful country, Croatia, deserves your attention. Start your trip in Dubrovnik. It’s a must-see city that was the setting for Game of Thrones. Stroll along its historic walls while enjoying the sparkling Adriatic Sea.

For me, its Old Town (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) has really powerful vibes. It’s as if you stepped into another time. After that, enjoy some fresh seafood at a beachside restaurant.

My favorite dishes from the Mediterranean food scene are black risotto and octopus with vegetables. By the way, our Croatian coast’s Mediterranean food is on a UNESCO list.

Another hotspot is the luxurious island of Hvar. If you want quieter islands, Vis, Brač, and Korčula are beautiful, too. Nature enthusiasts should not miss Plitvice Lakes National Park and its beautiful waterfalls.

Remember to sample the wines of the Dalmatian coast and Istrian olive oil, which has been voted the best in the world for years. The best part? This is just a very small glimpse of Croatia’s natural beauty.

Switzerland: Alps Hidden Gem

I love Switzerland! I also went to several of the bigger cities there, but they reminded me of our Croatian capital or the coastline cities. And I wanted a different getaway.

You can also focus on hidden gems that are rich in natural beauty. For example, I was in a small village, Leuk. Walking with massive mountains all around me was beautiful.

Another hidden gem is Grindelwald. It is a village with epic Alp views and many outdoor activities. In the winter, you can have fun with snowboarding or skiing. Or simply enjoy melted cheese on a cozy evening at a nearby fondue restaurant.

I also recommend Lake Brienz. It’s just a short drive from Grindelwald. Lake Lugano and Lake Geneva are beautiful, too. And let’s not forget the iconic Glacier Express.

It is not cheap (depending on the route and class), but trains in Switzerland are generally pricey. It will take you through some of Switzerland’s most beautiful landscapes.

So, Switzerland might be considered a year-round destination. Because it is difficult to determine whether these scenes are more attractive in the winter or in the spring.

Georgia: Unique Landscapes

Georgia is a European country that we unfairly neglect. When I mention its high mountains, you probably picture something similar to Switzerland. However, it is different. But remember that Georgia is not as developed as the other European countries. Food is very affordable, and I don’t recommend renting a car due to the crazy traffic.

Georgia is untouched, which may be both good and bad, depending on what you want for your trip. If you decide it’s good for you, here are some must-see suggestions. Visit Svaneti Region. It is renowned for its beautiful mountain landscapes, ancient stone towers, and unique medieval culture.

Other must-sees are Vardzia Cave Monastery, Uplistsikhe’s ancient cave town, and Tusheti National Park. Are you more interested in the Black Sea’s natural beauty and floral gardens? Then, the Black Sea Coast and Batumi are the places to go.

Portugal: Coastal Beauty

Portugal is a top European destination that should be on your bucket list. It combines charming streets, beautiful cliffs, golden beaches, and azure waters.

If it sounds nice, I recommend the Algarve region for its dramatic limestone formations and hidden coves, like the iconic Benagil Cave. It’s a must-see! You can kayak into this natural beauty adorned with a skylight.

If you go further north, consider Costa Victoria and its rocky cliffside beaches. If you want to taste good wine while admiring the natural beauty and relaxing flow of the river, let the road take you to the Douro Valley.

Of course, it would be impossible to overlook Lisbon, the capital city. It is famed for its picturesque hills, historic tram rides, colorful azulejos, and rich blend of tradition and modernity. All this is accompanied by the sounds of passionate Fado and the aroma of freshly baked Pastéis de Nata in the air.

Turkey: Golden Leaves and Ancient Wonders

Turkey can be characterized as “sweet chaos.” In the vibrant capital city, Istanbul, admire the famous Hagia Sophia, the lavish Topkapi Palace, and the colorful Grand Bazaar.

Grand Bazaar is a must-see. It is one of the world’s oldest and largest covered markets, showcasing a dazzling array of over 4,000 shops. You’ll find everything, from intricate carpets and handmade jewelry to spices and authentic Turkish delights.

When you tire of haggling at the Grand Bazaar, prepare for something unique: Pamukkale. Its striking travertine terraces are a natural wonder, and its thermal pools have attracted visitors since ancient times.

I can’t leave out Cappadocia and its fairy chimneys and prehistoric cave homes. A hot air balloon flight over Cappadocia is a real travel trend. Don’t miss the Turkish Riviera, either. Especially Ölüdeniz. It’s really beautiful; it reminds me of our Croatian beach, Zlatni Rat.

And all of this wrapped up in kebabs and baklavas, creating a sensory feast. Sweet chaos, as I told you.

Ireland: the Magic of the Emerald Isle

My sister lives in Ireland, and here’s what I have. The iconic Cliffs of Moher are a must-see. It combines the Atlantic Ocean with dramatic cliffs that rise more than 700 feet. That sounds nice, doesn’t it?

Of course, Dublin, the capital city, is not to be missed. Explore its vibrant pub culture at places such as The Temple Bar. It serves traditional music and Guinness. By Guinness, I mean the Irish beer, not the book of records.

If you are in Ireland on March 17th, prepare for St. Patrick’s Day. It is one of Dublin’s biggest celebrations, filled with parades, music, dance, colors, and cultural traditions. It’s more than just a celebration; it’s a time for family gatherings, storytelling, and honoring Ireland’s rich cultural past.

Also, while ordering food in Ireland, ask for no vinegar. Just trust me.

Asia

Japan: Ultramodern Life and Traditional Charm

Japan is growing in popularity among travelers. It combines the charm of the past with the modern world. A short train ride from Tokyo, the capital city, takes you to Osaka, the culinary capital of Japan.

I recommend exploring its food scene by trying takoyaki (octopus balls) and okonomiyaki (savory pancakes), maybe in the vibrant Dotonbori neighborhood.

For a calm getaway, visit Japan’s national parks, Nikko or Kamikochi. You can hike through natural beauty and admire beautiful waterfalls and mountains.

The Nikko National Park is home to the ornate Toshogu Shrine, a UNESCO World Heritage site, while Kamikochi offers nature trails with views of the Northern Japan Alps.

Thailand: Land of Smiles and Timeless Wonders

Are winters in warm climates the most popular thing on our bucket lists? So, how about Thailand? Bangkok, the capital city, is a hotspot that you won’t likely miss. It is a vibrant city with ancient temples, bustling markets, and modern skyscrapers.

While exploring the street food scene, try Tom Yum Goong. Its spicy flavors create a taste explosion. Thailand’s food scene incorporates spices from India. Okay, you chose Thailand for its blue waters and white sand, right? So, enjoy the island of Koh Phi Phi and its iconic Maya Bay, made famous by the film The Beach.

Beautiful scenes are not hard to find in Thailand, but try not to miss visiting Khao Sok National Park. It boasts rainforests and dramatic stones rising from the water. If possible, spend the night in a floating cottage. It is serenity.

Now, seriously, have you ever seen a temple draped in gold? If not, don’t miss Wat Phra That Doi Suthep. If you visit in November, add the Yi Peng Lantern Festival to your bucket list.

You will witness the wonderful sight of thousands of paper lanterns released into the night sky. This tradition represents letting go of misfortunes and accepting luck and wealth. And that’s never enough, right?

USA, America

Costa Rica: Feel the Rhythm of the Rainforest

Costa Rica is a popular getaway known for its lush rainforests, beautiful beaches, and rich biodiversity. How about hiking along lush trails that wind through natural beauty and end with views of the active volcano? If you like this idea, I suggest Arenal Volcano National Park.

For wildlife, consider Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. It is renowned for its colorful birds and distinctive ecosystems. If you are lucky, you may see the dazzling Resplendent Quetzal. Also, Manuel Antonio National Park is like a personal wildlife show. You will see playful monkeys and sloths lounging lazily in the trees.

If that didn’t raise your heart rate enough, I recommend rafting down the exhilarating Pacuare River or ziplining through the treetops.

Colorado: American Adventure in the Rocky Mountains

Colorado is an American scenic playground for outdoor enthusiasts. Its majestic Rocky Mountains stretch almost endlessly into the horizon, spanning over 3000 km. It is hard to say if this natural beauty is more beautiful in the winter or the summer.

You can hike and bike along the pine-scented routes and see an elk grazing calmly in the early morning light. Yes, the Rockies are home to a wealth of biodiversity.

If you’re looking for something more specific, I recommend beautiful Breckenridge. At approximately 9,600 feet, it provides mountain views and world-class skiing, hiking, and mountain biking.

Not to mention Crested Butte, a mountain biking dream come true with thrilling rides like the Upper Loop.

Or would you prefer to relax in the world’s largest pool of mineral hot springs, which overlooks the beautiful mountain scenery? If so, visit Glenwood Springs.

And let’s not forget about the stunning Rocky Mountain sunsets. There is a certain peace that reminds you to pause and appreciate the natural beauty all around you.

Canada: Embrace the Great Outdoors

Canada, the world’s second-largest country, combines natural wonders with dynamic cities, from the heights of the Rockies to the bustling streets of Toronto. If you enjoy natural beauty, Banff and Jasper National Parks are must-sees. They offer dramatic peaks and picturesque glacial lakes.

Quebec City offers European vibes with charming cobblestone streets. Try a warm beavertail pastry while you’re there. If you want to go off the beaten path, I recommend Newfoundland and Labrador’s rough natural beauty. Explore its rugged coastline, dramatic cliffs, and untouched wilderness.

When the journey takes you to Vancouver, I recommend strolling along the waterfront and relaxing at Kitsilano Beach. If you want a touch of adrenaline, walk across the Capilano suspension bridge.

Brazil: Where Every Moment is a Carnival

Brazil is a feast for the senses. Don’t miss Rio de Janeiro’s well-known beaches, Ipanema and Copacabana. If you can, take the cable car up Sugarloaf Mountain. You will enjoy panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean and Rio’s natural beauty. It will cost you around 30 euros one way.

How amazing is it to visit the Lungs of the Earth? The Amazon rainforest spans over 5.5 million square kilometers across nine countries. It plays a crucial role in regulating the planet’s climate and supporting countless species.

Or maybe you would rather dive into Afro-Brazilian culture? If so, visit Salvador. You can explore the colorful, historic Pelourinho district while listening to local music.

Okay, but you’re hungry already, aren’t you? When it comes to the food scene, try the moqueca. It is an intensely flavorful fish stew. Finally, if you plan your trip well, enjoy the Rio Carnival. With parades, dazzling costumes, and catchy music, it’s an insane experience. And “a little party never killed nobody.”

Cape Town is a good place to begin your African experience. Its Table Mountain rises dramatically, offering beautiful views. Did you know it’s one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature?

Don’t miss Cape Town’s mesmerizing neighborhood, Bo-Kaap. It is famous for its candy-colored houses that cascade down the cobblestone streets like a vibrant palette.

Another amazing place is Kruger National Park. It is a vast wildlife sanctuary where the untamed beauty of the African savanna meets the Big Five: lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino.
